    Pareidolia

    by Bart Hess

    (curated by Emilie Baltz)

In this cocktail, Dutch artist Bart Hess invites the guest to lick a glowing, viscous substance from a black, ribbed porcelain plate designed uniquely for PLAY. Human or alien, natural or surreal, the interaction plunges us into another world, questioning what we see, taste and feel through this primitive act.

Pareidolia is a psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant. Common examples include seeing images of animals or faces in clouds, the man in the moon, and hearing hidden messages in music when played in reverse.
